Raku Collection - Medium

Raku Collection - Medium
This fall I spent a month long residency in the north of Scotland at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop, experimenting with different atmospheric firing techniques.
This collection of raku-fired vessels were thrown on the wheel, bisque fired to 1000 Celsius, and then placed in an outdoor gas-fired raku kiln. They were taken out of the kiln while still glowing hot, and combustibles such as horsehair and feather were places on the pots, and the carbon markings were burned onto the form.
The results were unpredictable and a lot of control was surrendered to the process. Each piece is unique in form and surface decoration, where delicate lines of feathers and squiggles of horsehair adorn the pots.
Round - 10 cm height x 5.5 cm diameter at rim
Tall - 15 cm height x 3 cm diameter at rim
Please note that these have been bisque-fired, and are therefore porous and not food safe. They have been treated with bees wax on the exterior, however they are not water-tight and are intended for ornamental and decorative use only.

All pieces are made by hand, in a small-batch studio setting. Variations in glaze colour, texture, shape and size of the piece can be expected as part of the handmade process.
